This event, which has been organized by the
African American Studies Department and the Center for African American
Studies, will bring together the following scholars in the form of a virtual
salon: Chelsea Mikael Frazier (Cornell University); Danielle Purifoy
(University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill); J.T. Roane (Arizona State
University); Celeste Henery (University of Texas at Austin); Romy Opperman (The
New School for Social Research); Allison Puglisi (Harvard University); Teona
Williams (Yale University); and Christy Hyman (University of Nebraska at
Lincoln). The salon is co-sponsored by the Science in Society Program, the
Black History Month Committee, and Ujamaa (Wesleyan’s Black Student Union). It
is free and open to the public. The program (including tentative presentation
