Speaker/Panel

Art galleries, art dealers, and the visual arts: a wonderful and exciting world! Even better if you could establish a career in this world, and work full-time with the art and people you love so much. How can you make this happen? Ben Chaffee '00, Associate Director for the Visual Arts, Wesleyan's Center for the Arts, will discuss the work and careers of artists, art dealers, and gallery managers and owners. How do you break in? What skills will help you land your first job out of Wesleyan? How can you make networking work for you? Where is the art "industry" headed in the years to come? Join us to explore these and other questions. Arrive late, leave early, bring food: this event is informal. SPEAKER Ben Chaffee '00 Benjamin Chaffee is the Associate Director of Visual Arts in the Center for the Arts (CFA), Wesleyan University. Prior to joining the CFA, Chaffee worked as the Director of Corbett vs. Dempsey, Chicago, Illinois where he managed all aspects of the contemporary art gallery from 2012-2017. Originally from New Hampshire, he holds a BA in Earth and Environmental Science from Wesleyan University and an MFA in Studio Art: Sound from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He previously was the Director of the Tony Wight Gallery in Chicago and has also worked at Krakow Witkin Gallery in Boston. He has also worked as a freelance curator, visiting lecturer, critic, instructor, and exhibiting artist. Co-sponsored by the Department of Art and Art History, Wesleyan Women in Business, and the Gordon Career Center.
